One of the best ways to get involved and stay connected is by volunteering at Fairmont. Parents, family members, and other caregivers help to make our school the wonderfully nurturing environment that it is!
Tell us what you are interested in and we'd love to get you involved!
Email Hanah at volunteer.chair@fairmontschool.org.
All on campus volunteers must be "badged" - which means they need to have clearance from WCCUSD, including a negative TB Test or Risk Assessment. Here's what to do:
If you are new, or were cleared before July 1, 2025:
Apply via the Fairmont-Specific Volunteer application here
Submit proof of a current TB test or risk assessment (less than 4 years old) to school Secretary Tina Pilara over email (tpilara@wccusd.net) or in person.
If you were cleared after July 1, 2025:
You do not need to reapply.
You do need to submit proof of a current TB test or risk assessment (less than 4 years old) to school Secretary Tina Pilara over email (tpilara@wccusd.net) or in person.
Here are different ways to get your TB Test or Assessment done. It may not even require an office visit!
Have your health care provider sign off on the TB Risk Assessment form. You can even do this over email / messaging and not go into the office.
Ask for a Quantiferon TB blood test. This requires a blood draw, but you only have to go once.
Ask for a TB Skin Test. This requires 2 office visits: one to administer the test, one to check the results.
If you do have a positive TB test, now or in the past, a chest x-ray is required. If the x-ray shows you to be free of infectious TB, repeat x-rays are not required unless you show symptoms or experience a new exposure.
If you do not have a health care provider or have limited access to them, use the resources recommended by the district here.

Lunch & Recess: Help keep kids safe and transitioning from lunch to recess and back to class. Help students sort their compostables and recyclables.
Special Skills: Do you make art? Love to play with legos? Play an instrument? Juggle? Volunteers can offer one-time or recurring activities at recess that enrich the student experience. You can also ask your teacher about sharing talents in the classroom.
Fairmont's Library: We have a part-time librarian who provides an opportunity for each class to come through and check out books. We need volunteers to shelve books Mon-Tue 8:30-9:30am, as well as help out with special projects on your own schedule.
Garden: Our garden teacher, Ms. Claire, may need help time to time in the garden to help keep it clean and growing! In general, garden help might be things like picking up garbage, weeding, and sweeping.
Help in Classrooms: Please reach out directly to your teacher if you'd like to ask if they need help in the classroom. Many teachers welcome it, some are unsure, and some find it easier to manage the class without a volunteer. There could also be an occasion that you'd like to help with and if you could be specific about it with your teacher, let them know -- such as doing an art project or science project with the class or helping during a holiday celebration.
Field Trips: Connect with your teacher and let them know you're interested in helping as a chaperone with your class field trips. You must be a badged WCCUSD volunteer.
Community Events: Our events are entirely volunteer run and we need your help with planning, set-up, food, games, and more! Sign-up sheets are emailed to the volunteer list and are posted below. Sign up for the mailing list.
You name it: If you have an idea for another way to get involved, let us know!

6th Grade Student Ambassadors: We are trying to include 6th graders in more leadership roles at the school. They'll be able to provide input into event planning and co-lead activities at PTA-sponsored Fairmont events. This is a great way to get leadership experience before moving on to middle school. We're looking for someone to coordinate student ambassador volunteers at events. Interested? Email events@fairmontschool.org.
